Mukanya Is The Only Music Icon Left, Cries Alick Macheso Despite Being Roasted By Thomas Mapfumo

Sungura maestro Alick Macheso has shown that he is a man who does not keep grudges or take offence easily after he heaped praises on Chimurenga musician Thomas Mapfumo, despite having been a victim of Mukanya’s backhanded compliments in the last week.

Macheso said that Mapfumo and the late Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi were the country’s premier musicians and that with the death of Mtukudzi, Mapfumo was the only music legend left.

Speaking during the late, Dr Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi’s burial service in Madziwa on Sunday, Macheso is quoted by 263Chat as saying,
Mukanya Is The Only Music Icon Left, Cries Alick Macheso Despite Being Roasted By Thomas Mapfumo
I am saddened by the loss of this great icon. We were left with only two people to look up to for advice and guidance, and now that Tuku is no more, all the load is now on Mukanya’s shoulders.
Before he (Tuku) was declared a national hero, we knew already that he was a hero. Besides myself and Tuku, no other Zimbabwean artist was known overseas. Macheso’s popularity only reached England and nowhere else.
