Parliament To Impeach Mugabe - Will MDC-T Solve Zanu-PF Factions?

President Robert Mugabe might go down in history tomorrow as the first head of state and government to be impeached in pre and post independent Zimbabwe in the event that he refuses to tender his resignation by midday Monday.

Mugabe was recalled from his position in government and the party yesterday, ending a week of high-octane drama that followed the military's intervention in Zanu-PF's internal politics on Tuesday.

Zanu-PF legal secretary Patrick Chinamasa yesterday revealed that if Mugabe refuses to throw in the towel before midday today, Parliament will proceed to impeach him.

Zanu-PF yesterday recalled President Mugabe from the position of party First Secretary and replaced him with former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa whom the ruling party also reinstated as a Central Committee member.

Mnangagwa's election as the Zanu-PF President and First Secretary would be ratified at the Extraordinary Congress slated for next month.

The party also said that President Mugabe must resign as State President by midday today failing which the party's Chief Whip, Lovemore Matuke, would institute impeachment proceedings in line with Section 97 of the national Constitution.
